A gravity-defying bottle holder designed to freeze the act of pouring in time. I balanced the organic warmth of Durmast wood with precise geometry to create an object that appears to roll, yet remains perfectly anchored by its own center of gravity.

The Brief: Frozen Movement
Standard bottle holders function as static cages. The brief was to create an object that embodied the ritual of wine, specifically the gesture of generosity found in pouring. The engineering challenge was to capture a dynamic action (the tilt) in a solid form. I needed to design a volume that visually suggested movement, swinging or rolling, without compromising the safety and stability required for a premium dining environment.
Design Strategy: Controlled Instability
The form is generated by studying the bottle’s tipping point. I sculpted the base with a specific curvature that allows the object to rest at an oblique angle, mimicking the exact moment the wine flows into the glass. This “controlled instability” creates visual tension: the object looks like it’s about to move (“Swing”), but the mass distribution ensures it remains rock-solid. I chose Durmast wood for its specific density and tactile warmth, pairing it with a technical inner tube insert. This internal component isn’t just structural; it acts as a thermal barrier, maintaining the wine’s ideal serving temperature while protecting the wood from condensation.
