The Brief: From Product to Family.
The goal was to translate the linear architectural language of the Volta dining table into a circular dining table format. The industrial challenge was to achieve this geometric transition without losing the collection’s identity. We needed to develop a round proposal that simplified the production process, minimizing components while maximizing the visual continuity with the parent product.
Design Strategy: Radial Optimization
We streamlined the structure by moving from a 4-leg Cartesian layout to a 3-leg radial system. This geometric simplification reduced the component count and optimized the assembly time, while naturally solving stability issues. By maintaining the same bending radii and sheet thickness as the main line, we ensured that the manufacturing workflow remained consistent, allowing for a seamless catalog expansion with minimal tooling adjustments.
